WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) - A Wenatchee firefighter who saved a baby from a house fire 17 years ago was reunited with the child at her high school graduation.

KOMO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1IoyC4h ) that Mike Hughes fished a 9-month-old girl out of her crib years ago based mostly on a hunch - responding officers did not know there was a baby in the house when they arrived on scene.

Dawnielle Davison says she wanted the now-retired firefighter at her graduation because the accomplishment would not be possible without him. She says she had only heard bits about the fire. She had no idea it was heavily involved, and that most people don’t survive them.

She says getting through that makes her feel like she can cope with what life has in store for her.
