URBANA, Ohio (AP) - An official at the University of the Rockies in Colorado has been selected to head Urbana University in western Ohio.

Urbana University officials said in a statement Monday that George Lucas was selected as Urbana’s president after a six-month, nationwide search. Lucas has served as chief of staff and vice president of institutional planning and effectiveness at University of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado.

He will assume the office of Urbana president on July 15. Lucas will succeed Alex Capdeville, who has served as the university’s interim president since January.

Urbana is a private liberal arts school with dormitories, sports teams and more than 1,800 students. The school was founded in 1850. It was acquired last year by the larger Franklin University in central Ohio.
