ST. LOUIS (AP) - Incumbent Democrats on the St. Louis Board of Aldermen swept to primary election victories on Tuesday, with one exception.

Aldermanic President Lewis Reed easily won against his opponent in the only citywide race. Meanwhile, a Reed supporter, Cara Spencer, defeated veteran Alderman Craig Schmid in the 20th Ward. Schmid had been on the board since 1995.

Reed is expected to challenge Mayor Francis Slay in the 2017 mayoral primary. Slay defeated Reed in the 2013 primary.
