COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Columbus State University is opening a new computer lab and lounge for students who are military veterans or are still serving on active duty and in the reserves.

University officials planned a grand opening Thursday for the new Military Service Center located in the lower level of University Hall on the main campus.

Susan Lovell, Columbus State’s military enrollment director, says the university is proud to be known as military-friendly. She says about 15 percent of Columbus State students are somehow tied to the military. Similar centers for military students are being opened at other campuses in the University System of Georgia.

It’s no surprise veterans and active-duty service members would make up a chunk of Columbus State students. One of Georgia’s largest military bases, Fort Benning, is nearby.
