BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Democratic party in Vermont’s largest city has lost its majority on the City Council.

In Town Meeting Day voting Tuesday, the Democrats dropped from seven seats on what had been a 14-member council to five members on a redistricted, 12-member council.

Burlington’s Progressive Party holds four seats. There are two independents and one Republican.

The council voting came as Democratic incumbent Mayor Miro Weinberger was re-elected with more than 68 percent of the vote.
