MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A forecast calling for snow and ice to fall across much of Tennessee has led several school systems to announce they will close early.

In West Tennessee, meteorologists have issued a winter storm warning beginning at noon Wednesday. Freezing rain, snow and sleet are forecast in cities including Memphis, Dyersburg, Jackson and Savannah, with wind chill temperatures falling into the teens.

In Middle Tennessee, a winter storm warning goes in effect at 6 p.m. Wednesday in areas around and north of Interstate 40, including Nashville and Crossville. Snow and sleet accumulations may be between 2 to 5 inches.

Officials are warning of hazardous driving conditions and power outages. In Shelby County, emergency officials say trucks are ready to spread sand and salt on roads to reduce the amount of ice.
