SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A central New York county legislature is urging state transportation officials to keep a tunnel or depressed highway as options for rebuilding Interstate 81 in Syracuse.

Onondaga County legislators voted 13-2 on Tuesday in support of a formal resolution to support either a combination of a tunnel and street-level boulevard, a combination of a depressed highway and street-level boulevard, or a combination of a viaduct and street-level boulevard.

The resolution will be forwarded to state and federal representatives.

Sometime this spring state officials are expected to say whether a new elevated highway and-or a street-level boulevard are among suitable replacements.

A tunnel was not listed as a reasonable option in a draft report issued by the New York State Department of Transportation last summer.
