CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Officials in the Rockwood School District of St. Louis County say a substitute teacher was arrested at a grade school in the middle of the school day.

Superintendent Eric Knost sent a letter home to parents after the arrest on Wednesday at Green Pines Elementary School in Chesterfield. Knost says the teacher was detained by police for questioning, but the district was not given details.

However, Knost says the district has no reason to believe the incident under investigation involved the substitute’s work at the school. The teacher was removed from the substitute list and is prohibited from being on district property.

Knost says all employees, including substitutes, are screened with criminal background checks.
