ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Janice Wery wants to make sure any high school girl in the Ann Arbor area who wants a prom dress can get one.

From noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, she’ll have 150 prom dresses on sale for $10 each. It’s the third annual Prom Dress Project in Ann Arbor, according to The Ann Arbor News ( https://bit.ly/1JV4l0X ).

The dresses range from size 0 to size 20 and come in all colors and styles.

Wery is hoping to receive more donations prior to the event.

“You have to have a nice collection because everybody has their favorite colors or styles,” Wery said.

Last year, about 15 people bought prom dresses. Wery hopes the event will take off this year.

Many mothers have donated dresses that hung in the back of their daughter’s closet, she said.

The project started because Wery found that even though she washed dresses for local thrift shops, people didn’t come to buy them.

“Nobody wants to go to the thrift shop to purchase their special prom dress,” she said.

Anyone wishing to donate a prom dress can contact Wery at A2promdressproject@comcast.net. She also collects shoes and accessories.

“I collect them from anybody who wants to donate them,” she said. “I wash them, iron them and mend them.”
