WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - The son of the New York state Senate’s No. 2 Republican has been sentenced to six months in prison.

The son of Sen. Thomas Libous was convicted of tax fraud in January. A federal judge found Matthew Libous failed to report some income in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Some of the income was from his law firm, and some was from a cell tower company.

Libous also was ordered Monday to pay $25,000 and do 100 hours of community service.

Thomas Libous is from Binghamton. He also faces a federal prosecution. He’s accused of lying to the FBI about arranging his son’s job at the law firm and persuading a lobbying firm to pay part of the son’s salary. He has pleaded not guilty and goes on trial in July.
