SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. (AP) - An 82-year-old woman was among the graduates to receive diplomas at a Tennessee high school.

WRCB-TV (https://bit.ly/1HuuCl4) reports Peggy Tate Reeves walked with other graduates during Tuesday’s ceremony at South Pittsburgh High School.

Reeves told the station that she originally would have graduated in 1949, but she had surgery during her junior year of high school and fell behind. She tried to get caught up and was only a half-credit away from being able to graduate when she had to leave school to work.

She said she told her family in October that she wished she had graduated and with the help of her son-in-law, the school granted the half-credit in civics based on her life experience.

Reeves said the diploma has fulfilled a “lifelong dream.”
