SOPERTON, Ga. (AP) - A Treutlen County couple has been arrested after police say they killed a 2-year-old and told authorities he drowned.

Multiple news outlets report 22-year-old Porshia Johnson and her boyfriend 21-year-old Travis Jordan were arrested Sunday.

A GBI spokeswoman says Johnson’s son, Aerick McManus, was found dead May 14 in a plastic wading pool in Soperton.

Authorities say the boy’s injuries made investigators question that story. They included bruises to his body and other injuries to his mouth and lips. An autopsy Saturday determined the boy’s death was caused by blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

Johnson has been charged with felony murder and child cruelty.

Jordan has been charged with felony murder and malice murder among other charges.
