WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Warwick is renewing its pitch for the Pawtucket Red Sox.

WPRI-TV (http://bit.ly/1PDX6v3 ) reports that Mayor Scott Avedisian said Wednesday he’s not trying to pry the team out of Pawtucket.

But he said he wanted to give ownership a chance to stay in Rhode Island now that plans for a new stadium in Providence have fallen through and several Massachusetts cities have expressed interest in the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

Co-owner Larry Lucchino previously said he planned to move the team out of Pawtucket by 2018.

But after introducing the club’s new leadership Monday, he said he would step back and take time to review all options, including remaining in Pawtucket.

Avedisian says he will send the club a letter explaining what Warwick can offer.
