HARVEST, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a Madison City Schools teacher has been charged in connection with the shooting of an 18-year-old man.

Media outlets report 50-year-old Fitzgerald Bouvier McQueen was arrested Thursday and is charged with first-degree assault in the teen’s shooting.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting victim was a family friend who was involved in a “dating relationship” with McQueen’s daughter.

Authorities say deputies responded early Thursday to a home, where they found the victim who was shot. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

McQueen was booked into the county jail on bond. It isn’t clear whether he has an attorney.

Authorities say McQueen is a teacher at Heritage Elementary School. District spokesman John Peck says McQueen has been put on paid administrative leave.
