DENVER (AP) - The former director of the Illinois Bureau of Tourism will start using her expertise to boost Colorado’s tourism industry.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1kReQqY ) that Gov. John Hickenlooper has named Cathy Ritter as the new director of the Colorado Tourism Office. She will replace Al White.

In Illinois, Ritter helped develop a plan to guide the state’s $60 million tourism promotion efforts. She plans to develop a similar outline to boost Colorado’s tourism industry, which set a new record for traveler spending last year at $18.6 billion.

To begin her new role, Ritter plans to get more familiar with Colorado during a 90-day listening tour.

Ritter also plans to open a discussion on marijuana and study its role in bringing visitors to the state.
