MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Police in Madison are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another critically injured at an auto repair shop on the city’s southwest side.

Spokesman Joel DeSpain says the shooting happened shortly after noon on Friday at Freeport Auto.

A 52-year-old suspect was quickly arrested at the scene, and police recovered a gun believed used in the shootings. DeSpain says he faces tentative charges of first-degree intentional homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

The Dane County Medical Examiner has not released the name of the man who died, though police say he was in his 70s. The wounded man was in his 50s.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval says early reports indicated the shooting “was predicated on some sort of commercial transaction gone awry” but wouldn’t give details.
