LOS ANGELES (AP) - A former Southern California restaurant owner who secretly gave his girlfriend a pregnancy termination drug has pleaded no contest to attempted murder.

City News Service says Joshua Woodward entered the plea Friday in Los Angeles and faces a nine-year prison sentence.

The Florida man co-owned a restaurant called Table 8 in Los Angeles.

Prosecutors say in 2009, his then-girlfriend refused to have an abortion so he gave her misoprostol, which can induce labor and terminate early-stage pregnancies.

Authorities say the woman miscarried after Woodward gave her the drug three times.
