BERLIN, N.H. (AP) - State police say a chef at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility tried to bring more than $67,000 worth of drugs into the prison.

Charles Hanson was arrested Thursday and charged with delivery of articles to prisoners. He has been employed at the Berlin prison for 11 years.

Department of Corrections spokesman Jeff Lyons says authorities started investigating the 49-year-old North Woodstock man several months ago after receiving a tip that Hanson was allegedly bringing in contraband.

Hanson is facing 3 ½ to seven years in prison if convicted.

He was released on personal recognizance and is due in court next month. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
