STARKS, Maine (AP) - A Maine man has died and two people have been injured in a car crash in the Somerset County town of Starks.

Authorities say the driver was speeding and attempting to pass a line of vehicles Friday night when he lost control of the car on a turn and hit several trees.

One of the occupants, 21-year-old Clint Briggs of Madison, Maine, was killed in the crash. Another passenger was airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital in Skowhegan.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office says speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash. Sheriff’s deputies also determined that Briggs was not wearing a seatbelt.

The investigation is continuing.
