AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s big game hunting seasons are heading into their final two weeks.

The state’s “big three” hunting seasons are bear, deer and moose. The general firearms season for all three animals ends on Nov. 28. Each season includes specific limitations and hunters are advised to check with authorities before hunting.

It will still be legal to hunt deer with archery in certain areas until Dec. 12. There is also a special season for hunting with muzzleloaders that begins Dec. 7 and ends Dec. 12.

Moose season is limited to specific wildlife management districts. Deer and moose permits were both cut back this year.

Bear season’s busiest period was the baiting season, which ended in September. The hounding season also ended on Oct. 30.
