MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Legislature’s budget-writing committee will vote on borrowing $350 million to pay for road construction projects over the next two years, rather than just $200 million this year as requested by Gov. Scott Walker’s administration.

Rep. John Nygren said Tuesday based on feedback from Democrats the committee plans on Wednesday to take one vote on authorizing all the borrowing rather than just the first $200 million.

Democratic votes will be needed to approve the borrowing. Senate Republicans are objecting to borrowing more to pay for major road construction projects that face delays without the funding.

The full $350 million in borrowing is allowed under the state budget the Legislature passed in July, but the committee’s approval is needed to access it.
