WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say the man who fatally shot a suspect during an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in Winston-Salem will not be charged.

Multiple media outlets report the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Monday at Long Jewelers. Police say the man’s identity won’t be released since he isn’t being charged.

Police say it appears three suspects entered the jewelry store and confronted customers and employees with guns. Police say a “person in control” of the business shot one of the suspects. Authorities have identified that suspect as 30-year-old Matthew Shawon Elliott of Statesville.

Police say Elliott was wounded and ran out the store, along with the other suspects. He collapsed outside the business and died at the scene.

Authorities are looking for the other two suspects who fled.
