GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - East Carolina begins a 10-year deal with adidas in July to provide apparel and footwear for its sports programs.

School officials said Wednesday the partnership would run through the 2025-26 season.

In an interview with The Associated Press, athletic director Jeff Compher says the adidas deal is worth roughly $16.5 million in apparel, footwear and marketing funds.

ECU closes a multi-year deal with Nike this season, and Compher said the school spent roughly $840,000 last year to supplement apparel provided by Nike. He says the adidas deal will free up about $300,000 to $400,000 to use for other purposes.

That includes cost-of-attendance payments to athletes, which are provided by power-conference teams but aren’t required for other Division I programs. ECU, an American Athletic Conference member, began providing payments this season.
