ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Authorities have recovered an unloaded gun from a student’s car and a knife from another student’s backpack at St. Paul Central High School.

A school district spokeswoman says the car with the gun was parked across the street from the school. The St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/1WFB1lu ) reports police were called.

Both incidents happened Friday morning. In both cases, school officials learned of the weapons from other students.

The discovery of the weapons is the latest in a string of incidents at St. Paul high schools that have involved weapons on campus, fighting among students and the use of stun guns and chemical irritants by police officers.

Last month, a student brought a loaded handgun to Harding Senior High School.
