LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A U.S. airman is dead after the motorcycle he was riding struck a vehicle on a freeway in Dona Ana County.

New Mexico State Police say 24-year-old Andrew Dare was traveling around 9:15 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 10 south of Las Cruces.

State Police spokesman Chad Pierce says Dare somehow hit the left rear corner of a commercial vehicle.

The impact sent Dare into the median where he collided with a barrier.

Pierce says Dare’s injuries were fatal and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dare, a member of the U.S. Air Force, was from North Carolina and stationed at Holloman Air Force Base.

The crash remains under investigation.
