ATLANTA (AP) - A federal judge says she’ll sentence a former Georgia state lawmaker and civil rights activist who has pleaded guilty to tax fraud.

Tyrone Brooks, an Atlanta Democrat, pleaded guilty in April to one count of filing a false tax document and no contest to five counts of mail and wire fraud. Brooks told U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg on Friday he should have used proper accounting.

Prosecutors have asked Totenberg for a two-year prison sentence. Brooks’ lawyers are seeking five years’ probation, citing his years of dedicated civil rights work.

Three and a half days of testimony concluded Friday, and lawyers for both sides made closing arguments. Totenberg said she needed the weekend to think about the case and would sentence Brooks on Monday.
