MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a handyman has been arrested in the brutal murder of his landlord.

Ward Calhoun, chief deputy of the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, tells The Meridian Star (https://bit.ly/1OM1wk9) Christopher Lee Christian is charged with capital murder in the death of 79-year-old Edward White, Christian has been denied bond.

County Coroner Clayton Cobler says White was found dead early Thursday morning in the kitchen of his home in the Zero community south of Meridian.

Cobler says White died between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday from a blow to back of the head with a sharp object.

Calhoun said Christian lived in a small storage building adjacent to the White’s home, and worked doing odd jobs on the property.

Online jail records did not list an attorney for Christian.
