GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man who has already served time on a check fraud conviction has been indicted on charges he sexually assaulted a child.

The Gloucester Times (https://bit.ly/1UZXH9M ) reports that 46-year-old Douglas Campbell was charged last month with aggravated child rape and other offenses for allegedly assaulting a girl when she was 11 and 12 years old. She is now 19.

The Gloucester man served a three-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to larceny and fraudulently cashing checks in April.

Police say the assault victim’s parent contacted police May 22, prompting an investigation. Police say the girl told them Campbell sexually abused her several times.

When interviewed by police, Campbell denied the allegations.

He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 25. He remains held at Middleton Jail.
