TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Pima County woman who had a serious underlying health condition has died after eating tainted cucumbers.

County Health Department officials didn’t immediately release the woman’s name or age Friday.

They say she died while being treated at a Tucson-area hospital for an illness linked to the salmonella outbreak.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 418 people in 31 states were infected by the strains of salmonella found in cucumbers grown in Mexico and distributed by a San Diego company.

Health officials say there have been two other reported deaths from people sickened by the cucumbers- in California and Texas.

Of the 88 Arizona cases, 13 were in Pima County with six people needing hospitalization. Only four of the cases involved people over age 55.
