BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) - The dean of students at a Rhode Island high school has resigned following charges police found cocaine in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

WJAR-TV (http://bit.ly/2ayxqTe ) reports that William Pabst resigned Tuesday from Mt. Hope High School, in Bristol. School officials say Pabst resigned for “personal reasons.”

Pabst was arrested July 3 in East Providence following a traffic stop.

Police say Pabst was behaving nervously, prompting an officer to call for backup and search his vehicle. They say officers found a white powder believed to be cocaine in the car’s glove compartment.

Police say an officer also found half of an Adderall tablet in Pabst’s pants pocket at the police station.

School officials declined to comment on Pabst’s arrest.

Pabst’s lawyer didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment Wednesday.
