WASHINGTON, Iowa (AP) - Voters in the southeast Iowa city of Washington have rejected a $3 million bond measure that would have helped the YMCA build a new facility.

Online records say 445 people voted for the measure Tuesday, versus 1,265 people who voted no.

The money would have paid about 30 percent of the expected cost for the new YMCA facility. Fundraising and grants are helping pay the rest.

The YMCA expects to begin construction next year. The organization is expected to tighten up its building plans, now that voters have rejected the bond measure.
