GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - The city of Gillette has cut nine jobs amid the ongoing economic downturn in the state.

The Gillette News Record reports (http://bit.ly/2axULny ) that the layoffs were announced Wednesday and affected positions throughout the city operations.

City spokesman Geno Palazzari says the cuts will save the city more than $661,000 annually and work in addition to the 22.5 positions that are currently open.

Gillette’s sales tax revenue took a sharp decline during the last fiscal year, dropping from $54.1 million from July 2014 to June 2015 to $37 million during fiscal year 2016.
