GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - A Glendale woman is facing multiple counts of animal cruelty after authorities found three dead dogs at her rented home and 49 others without food or adequate shelter.

Glendale police say 55-year-old Laurie Collins was arrested Wednesday on 49 misdemeanor animal-cruelty charges for the surviving dogs and three felony counts for the dead ones.

Collins was released on her own recognizance after her initial court appearance Thursday where she didn’t have a lawyer.

Police were initially called to assist the county authorities in evicting Collins from the property.

When officers arrived, they saw dead dogs on the property and other dogs in the backyard with no shade and only minimum water available.

Her next scheduled court appearance is Aug. 18.
