BOSTON (AP) - Authorities say former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn crashed his car into a building on the street where he lives, but was unharmed.

Police responded to the 76-year-old Flynn’s South Boston neighborhood shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday. Mayor Marty Walsh’s office says Flynn was not injured, but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The cause of the one-car accident is under investigation.

Flynn was mayor from 1984 to 1993, when he resigned to become U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. He later ran unsuccessfully for the 8th Congressional District seat in 1998.

A phone message seeking comment was left at Flynn’s home Thursday.
