ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Jimmy Gavin scored 25 points with seven 3-pointers and the go-ahead basket as Winthrop beat Longwood 88-80 on Thursday night to sweep the season series.

Xavier Cooks scored 20 points with 12 rebounds, Keon Johnson added 10 points with four assists and the Eagles (17-7, 9-4 Big South) shot 16 of 35 from long distance.

Darrion Allen scored 19 points with five 3-pointers for Longwood (8-18, 4-9), Tra’Vaughn White added 16 points and Lotanna Nwogbo and Khris Lane scored 14 apiece, with Nwogbo grabbing 13 rebounds.

Trailing 42-37 at halftime, Longwood rallied and White’s putback put the Lancers up by two with 13:25 left.

Bjorn Broman and Cooks combined for three 3s and the Eagles regained the lead, but Allen’s 3 with 3:48 left put Longwood ahead 77-76 with 3:48 to go.

Gavin put Winthrop back on top 79-77 with a 3 that sparked a 12-3 run and the Eagles won going away.
