PITTSBURGH (AP) - A security guard says he heard a man say he’d killed a Pennsylvania lawmaker’s sister moments after she rejected his advances.

The guard testified during a preliminary hearing as Charles McKinney awaits trial.

McKinney is accused of gunning down 29-year-old Janese Talton outside a Pittsburgh bar on Jan. 22. Talton is the sister of Pittsburgh Democratic state Rep. Ed Gainey.

Police say McKinney was also shot during a police chase.

The Penn Hills resident faces charges including homicide and aggravated assault.

The guard testified Wednesday to hearing McKinney say he was going to “merk” her, which is slang for murdering someone. The guard says he also saw McKinney’s arm rise and a flash go off.

McKinney’s lawyer says no one saw her client with a gun.
