LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Prosecutors say a grand jury has indicted a Las Cruces mother of three accused of child abuse.

They say 29-year-old Stacy Adams was arrested after police found her home filled with trash and dirty diapers.

Las Cruces police say Adams’ children hadn’t bathed in weeks and appeared to have lice in their hair when officers were called to the house Feb. 1.

The children are ages 8, 6 and 1. Police say the youngest child hasn’t been seen by a pediatrician since being born.

Police went to the home after a state Children, Youth and Families Department worker was denied access.

The children now are in CYFD custody.

Prosecutors say Adams could face up to a nine-year sentence if convicted. It was unclear Friday if she has a lawyer yet.
