DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - Three men are in Yolo County Jail in connection to an assault on a UC Davis student that police are describing as a hate crime.

University of California at Davis officials said Tuesday that an African American student was assaulted around 3 a.m. Monday as she was walking home to campus housing. Officials said none of the men arrested are affiliated with the university.

Campus police said the student was not sexually assaulted and she did not require medical aid.

The suspects arrested on suspicion of a hate crime are 24-year-old Lonny Doyal Lee of West Sacramento and 22 -year-old Justin Sheppard of Sacramento. The third suspect, 22-year-old Jake Lee of West Sacramento, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.

It was not immediately known if the men had attorneys.
