SWISHER, Iowa (AP) - A truck crash near Cedar Rapids caused deicer and diesel fuel to spill into a nearby creek and flow to Coralville Reservoir.

The Iowa Department of Natural resources says the Monday rollover on Interstate 380 caused about 3,600 gallons of deicer and about 50 gallons of diesel to flow into McAllister Creek and then into Coralville Reservoir.

An environmental contractor cut through the ice on McAllister Creek on Tuesday and placed booms in the water, soaking up some of the diesel fuel. The deicer isn’t considered a long-term environmental hazard, but it’s bright green and can change the water color.

Officials say the driver of the truck was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The truck is owned by Fort Madison-based Cryotech Deicing Technology.
