BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) - Bowdoin College plans to open a new multidisciplinary center for the study of the environment by late 2018.

College president Clayton Rose says the new center will connect students with scholars from sciences, humanities and social sciences. He says it will also create new opportunities for research.

The new center will be funded with a $10 million gift from David and Barbara Roux. The Roux family has included several Bowdoin graduates across multiple generations. The center is tentatively named The Roux Center for the Environment.

The center will be located in a building constructed at the corner of Harpswell Road and College Street on Bowdoin’s campus.
