RENO, Nev. (AP) - Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says he expects Senate Republicans to eventually drop their opposition to holding confirmation hearings on President Obama’s pending pick for the Supreme Court.

The Nevada Democrat said Wednesday he hopes Obama announces his nominee within the next 10 days or so to fill the vacancy left by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

Reid says Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made a “terrible mistake” by threatening to block the confirmation process. He told reporters in Reno he’s convinced “McConnell is going to have to cave in.”

Reid likes at least three of the possible nominees mentioned so far - U.S. appellate Judge Sri Srinivasan (srih-NIH’-va-san) and U.S. Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Amy Klobuchar (KLOH’-buh-shahr) of Minnesota. Reid’s son attended Stanford law school with Srinivasan.
