SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - Discovery Communications Inc. (DISCK) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter profit of $219 million.

On a per-share basis, the Silver Spring, Maryland-based company said it had profit of 34 cents.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 39 cents per share.

The operator of cable TV channels such as TLC and Animal Planet posted revenue of $1.65 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $1.03 billion, or $1.58 per share. Revenue was reported as $6.39 billion.

Discovery shares have risen 3 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 13 percent in the last 12 months.
