PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh woman was in custody on a charge that she fatally stabbed her mother during an argument.

Thirty-seven-year-old Sommer Bernard was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene of a domestic dispute call about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday.

She’s been charged with criminal homicide in the death of 65-year-old Madeline Bernard.

Police arrived to find the victim dead and found the suspect a short distance away.

A police complaint says the women argued, prompting the suspect to grab a kitchen knife and return to the living room where she held down Bernard’s legs and stabbed her until the tip of the knife broke off.

Bernard was awaiting arraignment on a single charge of criminal homicide Thursday morning, and didn’t have an attorney listed in court papers. She’ll face a preliminary hearing Feb. 26.
