A prominent activist in the Black Lives Matter movement explained on Fox News recently why she and fellow activists believe the phrase “all lives matter” is a racial slur.

“‘All lives matter is a new racial slur,” Marissa J. Johnson, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Seattle, said on Bret Baier’s “Voter Revolt” special. “White Americans have created the conditions that require a phrase like ‘Black Lives Matter.’”

“Do you know how horrific it is to grow up as a child in a world that so hates you?” she asked Fox interviewer John Roberts, who is white. “That you have to literally say to other people, ‘My life matters,’ and they’re like, ‘Well everybody’s life matters,’ while you’re literally being gunned down in the street, while you’re being rounded up and mass incarcerated and forced into prison slavery.”

Black Lives Matter is not a strong enough statement for me,” Ms. Johnson added.

The Black Lives Matter Seattle co-founder came to national prominence last summer after she stormed the stage and interrupted Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders during a campaign rally, Breitbart News reported.

Mr. Roberts asked Ms. Johnson why her group is protesting “far-left candidate” Bernie Sanders.

“Left for white folks,” Ms. Johnsonresponded. “He’s left for the needs and concerns of mainstream white America.”

“The Democrats have always been reliant on the black vote,” she said. “Part of what we’re doing is waking black voters up to their power as a voting bloc, within the Democratic party.”

Ms. Johnson said the Democratic Party has “always” taken black voters for granted.

“What it’s gonna take to dismantle white supremacy is white folks actually gotta give up something,” she said. “You have to actually sacrifice yourself. You have to be willing to give up the things that you currently benefit from.”
