AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine and federal officials are conducting a survey of natural resources to help prioritize land and water management projects.

Maine Soil & Water Conservation Districts is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service on the assessment. State officials say the goal of the effort is to allow conservation districts to better assist landowners and municipalities to protect land and water.

Conservation districts are sending surveys and holding meetings to get a handle on natural resource concerns around the state. The effort follows an earlier assessment that was completed in 2011.

The survey is available online and officials ask that participants complete it by March 31.
