MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A special legislative committee will take public testimony this week on whether four Vermont judges should be given new terms.

The judges up for consideration are Superior Court Judges David Howard, Robert Mellow and Helen Toor and Environmental Court Judge Thomas Durkin.

In Vermont, state judges are appointed by the governor and then face retention votes in the Legislature every six years.

The Joint Committee on Judicial Retention is holding the public hearing on Thursday, Feb. 11 starting at 7 p.m. at the State House.
