COLONIE, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 63-year-old Florida man caused a three-vehicle crash when he parked his car in the middle of an Albany-area interstate highway and walked away.

Troopers say the man was traveling south on Interstate 87, the Adirondack Northway, when he stopped Sunday afternoon in the center lane near Exit 6 in the town of Colonie. Two other vehicles then hit his vehicle, with one person suffering minor injuries.

Troopers shut down three of the four southbound lanes as emergency crews assisted the injured person. Tow trucks removed the vehicles. Three of the southbound lanes were closed for about 45 minutes.

Police later found the man who had stopped on the highway and ticketed him for parking on pavement and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Troopers didn’t disclose why the man parked on the highway.
