CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities say a man was shot on the Bishop Ford Freeway in south suburban Chicago area early Saturday, causing northbound traffic to be shut down during an investigation.

Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting on Interstate 57 between 147th Street and the Cal Sag. The shooting occurred around 3:40 a.m.

The Chicago Sun-Times and WGN-TV are reporting the man was wounded in the leg.

ISP officials say a white SUV pulled alongside the victims and opened fire. A 22-year-old man driving the targeted vehicle lost control and struck a guardrail on the right side of the expressway.

Two men in their 20s were passengers in the victims’ vehicle. One of them suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital in Harvey.
