MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) - The upcoming New England Pond Hockey Classic is moving to Lake Waukewan in Meredith from its traditional grid of rinks on Meredith Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee - which is still largely open water.

The puck drops on the 7th annual pond hockey tournament Feb. 5, when upward of 250 teams will vie for the championship.

Lake Waukewan is much smaller than Lake Winnipesaukee - the state’s largest lake. It is nestled between Meredith and New Hampton and the hockey classic’s website touts that it has black ice that’s thickening daily.

Organizers are working out a plan to cope with the lack of on-site parking and plan to use shuttle buses to get players and spectators to what has become the largest hockey tournament series in North America.
