LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Nevada lawmaker says he plans to propose legislation to rename the Las Vegas airport after Democratic leader Harry Reid.

Democratic state Sen. Tick Segerblom told KTNV (http://bit.ly/29e1FNi) Friday that he will introduce a measure in the next legislative session to rename McCarran International Airport.

Segerblom says Nevada should move away from the legacy of Nev. Sen. Pat McCarran and celebrate Reid, who is retiring from the U.S. Senate.

McCarran, who served as one of Nevada’s senators from 1933 until his death in 1954, was known for anti-immigrant and anti-Semitic views.

Segerblom says the Democrats would likely need to be the majority in the Legislature for his bill to pass.

A spokeswoman for McCarran Airport declined to comment on the proposal.
